Opening Introductions

After the delegates arrived the camera crew was taping delegate introductions for the telecast Friday morning. The Holiday Inn Hollywood Beach pool deck was the background for the tapings of the shows opening introductions. Delegates Sara Zurrell; Tiffany Brijbag and Brenda Orcutt  introduced themselves to the home viewers.

After the individual introductions it was a group walking shot for a large group of volunteers and Victoria Ratliff as the scene completed the televised opening. The conditions were hot but perfect and the girls looked great. Enjoy the pictures.

Registration is where you meet roommates, contestant coordinators, receive the pageant week schedule and hotel room assignments. The hotel rolled out the red carpet for our delegate’s first introduction to this world-class resort. The girls were so excited and ready to get the pageant started!

Preliminary Interviews:

The first phase of the preliminary competition began Friday afternoon as the pageant judges were introduced to the delegates for the first time. Five delegates comprised each group as they first gave one minute speeches on what they felt was important for the judges to know about themselves. Then it was time to meet the judges one on one for two minutes per interview. Then the competition bell would ring and it was off to the next judging station. After everyone had the chance to meet and speak it was one final group presentation as the process was repeated until around 9:00pm.

Saturday October 1st

Rehearsal! Rehearsals! Rehearsals!

Day number two has a split purpose, preparing for the international broadcast on Sunday afternoon and getting ready for the preliminary pageant Saturday night. Director Grant Gravitt, Jr.  Co-Pageant Director Rachel Uziel and choreographers Roy and Ali Bramwell had the ladies looking fantastic for a first rehearsal day. This is one spectacular group of delegates competing for the title of Miss Florida Teen USA 2005.

Bailey Concert Hall on the Central Campus of Broward Community College is the pageants home as the big stage and lights made quite an impression on our ladies. Then the delegates focused on this being the best Miss Florida Teen USA ever! Even while the girls are working hard, fun is the name of the game. Rehearsals are all about work but how can you not enjoy yourself with so many great young women.

Preliminary Show Night

The preliminary competition concluded Saturday night at Bailey Hall as it was the entire delegation in Swimwear and Evening Gowns. The evening began as the near capacity crowd greeted the forty-four delegates in their opening number attire of lavender and white. Host Luis Aguirre (who was just named one of “People Magazines 25 Sexiest Singles”) was joined by Miss Florida USA 2006 Cristin Duren who shared co-hosting duties with Miss Florida Teen USA Victoria Ratliff in this high energy preliminary show. Fashion was truly on parade as they were greeted by each delegates many supporters, directors and family. Mr. Aguirre and Ms. Duren started the evening with the Swimsuit Competition as each contestant competed in a one-piece swimsuit of their own choosing. Each competitor had the stage to herself as this competition showed both fashion attire and dedication to their own personal fitness. Competing in groups of eleven the groups ended the competition with a review as all the delegates returned for comparison judging.

After the second phase of the competition it was time to learn more about Miss Ratliff’s year as she was interviewed center stage. Then she took the mic and entertained the crowd both singing and dancing to “Footloose” and then the ballad “Concrete Angel”. The audience ate it up as this is one talented reigning queen.

After a brief intermission where the crowd had a chance to meet and mingle with the Miss Florida USA family it was time to begin everyone’s favorite competition. Evening Gowns always gets our fashion forward crowd excited and this year was no different. Miss Ratliff helped introduce the young women as they captivated the audience with their grace and fashion style. Then the night ended with the entire cast returning to the risers to wave goodnight. Ms. Duren, Miss Ratliff and Mr. Aguirre closed the show with a reminder the Sunday’s matinee would crown Florida’s champion of teenage pageantry.
